BEWARE OF THE PROCESSIONARY CATERPILLAR

MyDogRox Dog Information BEWARE OF THE PROCESSIONARY CATERPILLAR

Dog owners beware of the processionary caterpillar, the furry fiend is back and dog owners need to be vigilant when walking their dogs.

What are processionary caterpillars?

Processionary caterpillars look like tiny little fluffy caterpillars that follow each other in a big long line, typically found near pine trees where they nest.

Fluffy is’t always cute! Don’t be fooled by their size and fluff  as that fluff is actually a tonne of tiny little poisonous  darts that shoot out when the caterpillar is agitated. Those darts will cause irritation and rashes in humans but can be deadly to a dog – particularly if it’s licked it or picked it up with its mouth, or worse ingested it.

Best option for this time of year to avoid risk and switch up your dog walk out of the campo and on to the beach.
